Inalco's International Student Exchange Program gives exchange students access to three categories of courses, all taught in French.
French Language courses (Inal’FLE):
French Language courses (reading, speaking, civilisation, etc.) available for all proficiency levels, from A1 (full beginner) to C1 (advanced).
Please note that incoming students will have to take an online language test before arriving at Inalco. Its results will determine the group level in which the student will be registered at Inalco, regardless of other results from DELF/DALF or TCF.
Language and Civilisation courses:
Courses in over 100 non-Western languages, civilisations, and area studies ranging across a dozen Departments. To enroll, exchange students must have at least a B1 level in French.
Please note that:
- Korean studies department – all courses are closed to exchange students
- Japanese studies department
- Courses from the 1st year of bachelor degree are closed this year
- Students wishing to take courses from the 2nd year of Bachelor degree must have a JLPT N3 with a minimum grade of 120/180
- Students wishing to take courses from the 3rd year of Bachelor degree must have a JLPT N2
- Russian, Arabic and Chinese studies departments – Full beginner classes are closed to exchange students. Students wishing to take courses from these departments must attest that they previously studied the language for about 200 hours.
Thematic and Disciplinary courses:
To enroll, exchange studies must have at least a B1 (B2 recommended) level in French. Those courses are focus on examining phenomena through a cross-national lens.

Please note that access to Inalco's thematic and disciplinary courses is subject to final approval by the teachers. Students should therefore confirm their admission to the course with the teachers during the first week of classes.
Professional Track courses:
Inalco also offers undergraduate courses in:
- International Trade and Business
- International Relations
- Intercultural Communication
- Language Education and Teaching
- Multilingualism and natural language processing
To enroll, exchange students must be proficient in French at a C1 level (advanced) and in English at a B2 level (high intermediate). Please note that access to Inalco’s Professional Track courses is competitive and subject to final approval from an admission committee. Furthermore, only undergraduate level courses are available for these Professional Tracks. These courses are only available for student staying for one academic year (from September to June).
